KABUL'S DRINKING WATER SUPPLY

CUSTOMER: URBAN DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT (AFGHANISATN)
LOCATION: KABUL, AFGHANISTAN
Missions:
The refurbishment of water treatment facilities and the installation of 13 new borehole pumps to supply a capacity of 2750 m³/h; installation of 3 additional surface pumps to increase pumping capacity by 825 m³/h.
The F&M solution:

Despite a fragile geopolitical context, Feljas & Masson was able to provide its technical expertise in order to rehabilitate the existing facilities. "Going off the beaten track" is one of Feljas & Masson's development strategies and going into Afghanistan is an obvious example of this strategy put into practice. Safety was obviously an important consideration but the image the media relays does not necessarily reflect the daily reality: vigilance and taking the minimum basic precautions are obviously crucial, but what is especially important is to show our Afghan partners respect and to work alongside them. Afghanistan is a mythical and fascinating country where there is much to be done and rebuild, a country which disposes of abundant sources of funding and an economic development department which is particularly proactive and efficient.

Key data:
Given the conditions of post-war reconstruction in Kabul, re-establishing the drinking water supply has been planned in several phases. The Afghan Urban Development Department chose Feljas & Masson to carry out the first phase.
